## About Łęknica – Bad Muskau

Łęknica in Żary county and Bad Muskau in Saxony face each other across the Lusatian Neisse, and the bridge between them leads straight to Muskau Park. This landscape park, laid out by Prince Hermann von Pückler, spans both banks of the river and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2004 as a site shared by Poland and Germany. The crossing is open to cars in both directions and is used by tourists, residents and shoppers heading to the Łęknica market, which is popular with visitors from Germany.

You cross an internal Schengen border here with no mandatory stop. Temporary controls by both sides are, however, currently in force on the Polish-German border (as of September 2026 – German since 2023, Polish since July 2025); at smaller crossings they are random, and it is hard to predict when a patrol will turn up, so look at the announcements before leaving. Even on a walk through the park, which the border cuts across, you need an identity document on you. German motorways are free for cars.

Traffic is heaviest at weekends, especially from spring to autumn, when Łęknica and Bad Muskau receive the most visitors and shoppers. On weekdays the crossing usually flows freely. For a longer journey it is easier to set off on the motorway via Olszyna–Forst to the north, and locally to the south there is the Przewóz–Podrosche crossing. The live board shows the current state.
