## About Ogrodniki – Lazdijaj

Ogrodniki lies in the Sejny municipality, a few kilometres from the town, in a borderland where a Lithuanian minority has lived for generations, centred on nearby Puńsk. The crossing leads to Lazdijai in southern Lithuania, from where roads fan out towards Alytus and the spa town of Druskininkai. It is open to cars in both directions and has a regional character: it is used by people from the Sejny area and Dzūkija, families with relatives on both sides, and travellers who prefer a quieter way into Lithuania than the Via Baltica.

The Polish-Lithuanian border is an internal Schengen border with no booths and no routine clearance. That does not mean there are no checks: as of September 2026, Poland is still running the temporary traffic controls on its border with Lithuania that it introduced on 7 July 2025, and a Polish Border Guard patrol may stop a car heading into Poland at random, sometimes only a few kilometres past the line. The Lithuanian side has not reintroduced checks. Look at the Border Guard's current information before you go. Keep a passport or ID card in the car. Once across, set your watch forward – Lithuania is one hour ahead of Poland.

Traffic here is usually moderate, although in summer and on long weekends tourists heading for the Lithuanian lakes and Druskininkai add to it, and on Saturdays there are shopping trips.
