## About Świecko – Frankfurt Autobahn

Świecko–Frankfurt (Oder) is the main crossing on the A2 motorway, south of Słubice. In Germany the road becomes the A12 autobahn to Berlin, so this is the most important road corridor linking Warsaw and Poznań with the German capital and on to Western Europe. The crossing handles cars in both directions, but its character is set above all by enormous truck traffic, which on weekdays flows through almost without pause.

Formally the border is open under Schengen, with no routine clearance. Yet this is where the current temporary controls are felt most: Germany has run them since October 2023, Poland since 7 July 2025, and as of September 2026 both are still in force. Only some vehicles are checked, waved aside or into a car park, but with traffic this heavy even that can lengthen the crossing. So look at the current announcements before you leave and take a passport or ID card. The German A12 is free for cars, whereas on the Polish side some sections of the A2 are tolled.

Queues most often build on Friday afternoons and at the start and end of long weekends and the summer holidays, made worse by roadworks and accidents on the approaches. If your destination is Frankfurt itself, the Słubice–Frankfurt bridge is quicker, and eastern Berlin can be reached via Kostrzyn nad Odrą.
