Spain bans trucks over 7,500 kg GVW (and all articulated vehicles) on Saturdays and holiday eves from 13:00–24:00, on Sundays and national holidays from 00:00–24:00, and on the Monday/day after a holiday from 00:00–02:00. In July and August an additional nationwide peak-hours ban applies every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday from 11:00–22:00. ADR (hazardous goods), special-transport and permit-required vehicles face stricter rules. DGT rules apply nationwide except Catalonia, the Basque Country and Navarra, which set their own separate bans. Exempt from the ban
Fines for violations
- Breaching a ban is a serious traffic offence (infracción grave): €200 fine + up to 4 licence points deducted
- Early payment within 20 days of notification reduces the fine to €100 but waives the right to appeal
- Using a non-RIMP route for ADR transit is equally a serious offence: €200 + 4 points
- In the most serious cases (driving a section with a total ban) fines can reach €2,000 with vehicle immobilisation
- Combined with other violations (e.g. alcohol) total sanctions can reach €6,000
