There are no border checks at this crossing

We deliberately show no number here. There is no queue to measure, so a calculated waiting time would be invented. Checks at internal Schengen borders are sometimes reintroduced temporarily — when that happens, waiting times will return to this page. Last verified: 2026-08-18.

About Negru Voda – Constanta

The Negru Vodă–Kardam crossing is on the land border in Dobruja. The Romanian town of Negru Vodă belongs to Constanța county, although it is a fair drive from the city of Constanța itself, the large Black Sea city and port. On the Bulgarian side is the village of Kardam in Dobrich province, from where roads lead towards Dobrich, Balchik and Varna. The crossing is open to cars in both directions and is chosen by people driving from the Constanța area to the Bulgarian coast who want to avoid the seaside route through Vama Veche.

In 2025 Romania and Bulgaria became full Schengen members at their land borders as well, so systematic document checks here have been abolished. Either country may still temporarily reintroduce controls, so look at current announcements before travelling, and take an identity document with you. Remember the vignettes: the rovinieta in Romania and the electronic vignette in Bulgaria.

Traffic is usually moderate and grows mainly in summer, especially at weekends when holidaymakers head for the sea. Dobruja's farmland makes for easy driving, but harvest time brings more machinery onto the approach roads. If you are heading for the resorts north of Varna, compare times with the coastal Vama Veche–Durankulak crossing; for inland Bulgaria, with Ostrov–Silistra. All of them are on the live board.

Calculated for a car at 7,0 L/100 km, petrol 95 at the country average on the day of calculation. Substitute your own consumption — the whole formula is here.

Vignettes required: 🇷🇴 Romania — Rovinieta (1-Day) 3,50 EUR · 🇧🇬 Bulgaria — 1-Day E-Vignette 4,09 EUR

A road charge is counted only where the route actually uses a toll road. A vignette is always counted, because in many countries it is required on ordinary roads too.

Where a drive uses a toll motorway, the barrier toll for that section is included in the figure, at the price the road operator publishes for it. A vignette is a flat national price.
